Das in sich schlüssige Fragment eines chinesischen Stummfilms von Yao Hou, der den „Konflikt zwischen materiellem und spirituellem Leben“ behandelt. Der Regisseur selber spielt die Hauptrolle: einen Dichter, der sich auf eine Insel zurückzieht, um der modernen Zivilisation zu entkommen. Die in der Cinémathèque Suisse überlieferte Exportfassung mit chinesischen und englischen Zwischentiteln wurde von der Cineteca di Bologna restauriert und zeichnet sich durch eine brillante Bildqualität und wunderschöne Farbviragen aus. Reviews in German: «Als studentische Protestanten 1925 in der Bewegung des 30. Mai in Shanghai getötet wurden, überarbeitete Hou Yao für Great Wall und Minxin einige seiner eigenen Stücke über den humanitären Preis von Gewalt und Bürgerkrieg. Unter anderem gehören zu diesen Filmen Chungui mengli ren (The person in the spring boudoir dream, 1925), Heping zhi shen (Spirit of peace, 1926) und Haijiao shiren (The poet at the end of the seas, 1927).
