Synopsis in German
Professor Moriarty (George Zucco), Inbegriff des Bösen und Sherlock Holmes' (Basil Rathbone) großer Gegenspieler, wird mangels Beweisen auf freien Fuß gesetzt. Er nutzt die Gelegenheit, den Detektiv mit zwei scheinbar ganz verschiedenen Fällen zu beschäftigen, deren heimlicher Drahtzieher er ist: einer Drohung an den Tower, ein kostbarer Stein würde aus den Kronjuwelen verschwinden, und einer Todeswarnung an einen jungen Mann. Nachdem tatsächlich ein Todesopfer zu beklagen ist und Holmes einen zweiten Mord gerade noch verhindern kann, erkennt er, dass die Täuschungsmanöver des Professors von dem wirklichen Täter ablenken sollten...
